Edward S. Marcus | 1909 – 1977

Edward S. Marcus, the second of four Marcus brothers, first acquired land in Denton County around 1950 and steadily enlarged his holdings until he amassed quite a large ranching operation. He remained very involved in the revitalization of downtown Dallas throughout his career and served as a member of the Central Business District Association. Edward S. Marcus can be remembered as the innovator for the development of the catalog and mail order business for Neiman Marcus. Mr. Marcus marries Betty Blum of New York City, in 1946.

Retiring from Neiman-Marcus as Chairman of the Board in 1972, Edward S. Marcus sought to devote his energy to the development of a long-term dream…the building of Flower Mound New Town.

He server the area in many capacities through various civic organizations including the Southwest Medical Foundation, Operation Lift, Dallas Legal Aid Services, and as past president of the Texas Psychiatric Foundation. Mr. Marcus was President of the National Association of Partners of the Alliance, an organization to further inter-action between South America and the United States. As a result of this service, he received the highest award given to a civilian by the government of Peru.

The Lewisville Independent School District is most grateful for the generosity and deep concern Mr. Marcus had for the education of youth and the progress of society. His contributions aided the bu9lding of an educational structure that will stand as a lasting tribute to his dreams, his goals, and his aspirations. Mr. Marcus was truly a friend of public education.
