Homecoming Carnival 2015

The Marcus HS PTSA once again had a dunk tank at the carnival and several teachers & administrators got very wet and were great sports as usual. Thanks to the volunteers who worked the booth and helped the kids have a blast.

September: PEP

MHS-PEP2Make plans to attend the first Parent Education Program (PEP) of the year.

  • Topic: Hands-on Training in Skyward Family Access”
  • Where: MHS-9 Room 9208
  • When: Wednesday, September 2 from 6:00p – 7:00p

Parents will be guided through the process of accessing grades, viewing calendars, etc.  Child care will be provided on-site for children under 12.  For more information contact Jill Adams (at MHS) adamsj@lisd.net or Dr. Erum Shahzad (at MHS-9) shahzade@lisd.net.

 

PEP is offered the first Wednesday of the month.  Specific topics will be shared in the next couple of weeks.

College Fair Monday

The MHS College Fair is Monday evening.  7:00 – 8:30p in the Marcus cafeteria.  Over 50 colleges, universities, and other schools will be represented.  This is a great way for sophomores and juniors to begin the college process.

The next Parent Education Program (PEP) is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, 2015. The topic is Creating Resilient Teens—Teaching our kids how to cope. A parent, student, and local therapist will share information on helping kids cope with stress and depression. They will also share their personal stories.

The session begins at 6:00 P.M. in the Marcus Main Library.

Free babysitting service is available during the session.

Earth Hour: Saturday 8:30p

Darkness is coming for an hour on Saturday. The World Wildlife Fund’s annual Earth Hour is celebrating its 9th anniversary this weekend.

Earth Hour was famously started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Since then it has grown to engage more than 162 countries and territories worldwide. Earth Hour 2015 is on 28 March 2015, 8:30 pm.

Career Center East: Community Night

Jeff Wagley, Associate Principal at Career Center East is inviting you to Community Night at the Career Centers on Tuesday, February 10th, 5:30 -7:00. Everyone is invited students, parents, neighbors, family and friends. With High School registration fast approaching for the 2015-2016 School Year, there is no better time to check out Career Center East and Dale Jackson Career Center.

The LISD Career Centers offer over 35 courses. Students that attend the Career Centers gain valuable industry knowledge through classroom experiences and internship programs. Students attending the career centers have the opportunity to obtain industry certifications that prepare them for the workplace. The LISD Career Centers will help in achieving the highest levels of preparation to help students become college and career ready.

JMHS-PEP2oin us for our Parent Education Program (PEP) this Wednesday evening.  Learn about using the Love & Logic parenting style to teach accountability while reducing conflict.  These time-tested methods work well with today’s teens, fostering a sense of independence while helping them understand limits.
